1. Structure and design features
Shape advantages
The square design makes it easier to stack and fix fuel tanks during transportation. Compared with round fuel tanks, square tanks can be arranged more closely on vehicles or ships and other means of transportation, making effective use of space. For example, in container transportation, square fuel tanks can better fit the internal shape of the container and reduce shaking and displacement during transportation.
Material
High-strength metal materials such as stainless steel or aluminum alloy are usually used. Stainless steel has good corrosion resistance and can prevent fuel from corroding the tank body, especially for fuel containing certain corrosive components. Aluminum alloy has a lighter weight, which can reduce the transportation burden and improve transportation efficiency while ensuring a certain strength.
The outer layer of the tank may also have a protective coating to further enhance its corrosion resistance, and can play a certain role in heat insulation and reduce the impact of external temperature on the fuel.
Safety design
The fuel tank is equipped with a safety valve. When the pressure in the tank exceeds a certain limit, the safety valve will automatically open to release part of the pressure to prevent the tank from exploding due to excessive pressure. For example, in a high temperature environment or when the fuel shakes violently and produces a large amount of gas, causing the pressure in the tank to rise, the safety valve can effectively ensure safety.
There is also a liquid level indicator that can display the liquid level of the fuel in the tank in real time, which is convenient for operators to monitor the remaining amount of fuel, ensure sufficient fuel supply during transportation, and avoid safety hazards such as fuel overflow.
2. Application areas
Road transportation
Used to transport vehicle fuels such as gasoline and diesel. In tank trucks, square fuel tanks can be reasonably arranged according to the size and load of the vehicle. Some large tank trucks may have multiple square fuel tanks, which are connected to each other through pipelines and valve systems to facilitate the loading and unloading of different types of fuels or to balance the distribution of fuel during transportation.
Marine transportation
Square fuel tanks are also used when ships transport fuel oil or liquefied natural gas (LNG). For LNG carriers, the thermal insulation performance of square fuel tanks is particularly important because liquefied natural gas needs to be stored at extremely low temperatures. These fuel tanks usually use special insulation materials and structural designs, such as double-wall structures, with insulation materials filled in the middle to reduce heat transfer and maintain the low-temperature liquid state of LNG.
Air transport (ground support)
At the airport, the tanker trucks used to refuel the aircraft are usually equipped with square fuel tanks. These fuel tanks need to meet strict aviation fuel transportation standards to ensure that clean and high-quality fuel is provided to the aircraft. In addition, due to the special environment of the airport, the safety and reliability of the fuel tanks are required to be higher, such as the need to have measures to prevent the generation and accumulation of static electricity.
3. Transportation precautions
Stability
During transportation, ensure that the fuel tanks are firmly fixed. For road transportation, it is necessary to use suitable ropes and brackets to fix the fuel tanks to the vehicle to prevent shaking or tipping due to braking, acceleration or turning during vehicle driving. In marine transportation, the fuel tanks should be installed in a stable position on the ship, and shock-absorbing devices should be used to reduce the impact of factors such as waves on them.
Fire and explosion prevention
Fuel is a flammable and explosive substance, so the vehicle or ship transporting the fuel tank should be equipped with corresponding fire-fighting equipment. At the same time, avoid approaching fire sources or high-temperature areas during transportation. For example, tank trucks should maintain a certain safe distance from other vehicles during driving, especially those that may generate sparks, such as vehicles transporting flammable and explosive items or vehicles performing operations such as welding.
Environmental requirements
Pay attention to the environmental conditions of the transportation route. If passing through densely populated areas or sensitive areas (such as water source protection areas, etc.), you need to be more cautious to prevent fuel leakage from causing harm to the environment and residents. At the same time, for different climatic conditions, such as high temperature, low temperature, heavy rain, etc., corresponding protective measures should also be taken. In hot weather, pay attention to the temperature control of the fuel tank to prevent the expansion of the fuel and the increase of pressure due to excessive temperature; in cold weather, for some easily solidified fuels, heating or insulation measures should be taken to ensure that the fuel can be loaded and unloaded and transported normally.
